Hollywood Smile: what it involves and who it is for

What is a Hollywood Smile?

The term Hollywood Smile describes straight, aligned, white teeth. It originally referred to the smile of many celebrities and models; today many patients ask for it. Few people naturally have even teeth, and several factors affect their condition: diet, trauma, stress, medical treatment and oral hygiene. A Hollywood Smile means redoing the teeth visible when you smile with ceramic veneers or crowns, to harmonise their shape, alignment and shade.

  • Veneer: covers only the front of the tooth
  • Crown: covers the tooth on all sides, like a cap
  • Both give an aesthetic, natural look
  • Whitening alone changes neither shape nor alignment

Possible solutions

The choice is made with the dentist, based on the examination and your expectations.

  • Ceramic veneers

    Thin pieces bonded to the front of the teeth after about 1 mm of reduction. They mainly suit the 6 to 8 front teeth, when well aligned.

  • Ceramic crowns

    They cover the whole tooth and strengthen it. Preferred for damaged or misaligned teeth, and for back teeth, which are used for chewing.

  • Veneers at the front, crowns at the back

    To redo 10 to 12 or more teeth per jaw, veneers on the front teeth are often combined with stronger crowns on the back teeth.

  • 16 or 20 teeth

    The most requested packages cover 16 teeth (8 upper, 8 lower) or 20 teeth (10 upper, 10 lower), with zirconia veneers or crowns. The right number for your smile is confirmed at the examination.

Materials and technology

How the treatment is prepared

  • Vita ceramic and zirconia

    Veneers and crowns are made of zirconia ceramic or pure E.max ceramic, with materials from the German manufacturer Vita.

  • CAD/CAM manufacturing

    Zirconia restorations are designed and milled by computer (CAD/CAM) from impressions of your teeth.

  • Shade chosen with you

    The shade is chosen with a shade guide, taking into account your face, neighbouring teeth and expectations.

Steps

How the treatment unfolds

Durations are indicative; your schedule is set after the examination.

  1. Before travelling

    1. Remote pre-assessment

    You send photos of your smile and, if you have one, a recent X-ray. A dentist replies with an initial opinion, the possible options and any questions to clarify. The final plan is only drawn up after the examination at the clinic.

  2. Day 1

    2. Examination and plan

    Clinical examination and panoramic X-ray at the clinic. The dentist indicates, tooth by tooth, whether a veneer or a crown is proposed, and you discuss shape and shade together.

  3. 3. Tooth preparation

    The teeth are prepared: about 1 mm on the front surface for a veneer, on all sides for a crown. Impressions are then sent to the laboratory.

  4. 4. Try-ins

    Before final fitting, the veneers or crowns are tried in: the bite and the appearance are checked, and any corrections are made on site.

  5. 5. Final fitting

    Once you have approved the shape and shade, the veneers are bonded and the crowns cemented.

  6. Before departure

    6. Check-up and follow-up

    A check-up appointment is scheduled before you leave. Afterwards, the team remains available for your questions, and regular check-ups with a dentist are recommended.

What to know before deciding

Risks and points to consider

  • Tooth preparation (reduction) is irreversible: a prepared tooth will always need to stay covered.
  • Temporary sensitivity to hot or cold may occur after preparation.
  • Ceramic can crack or come loose after a knock or with tooth grinding; a repair or replacement is then needed.
  • Veneers do not correct misalignment: crowns are then proposed for the teeth concerned.
  • Whether the treatment is suitable depends on your oral and general health; this can only be confirmed after a clinical and X-ray examination.
  • Tell the dentist about any medication, allergies and health conditions (diabetes, bleeding disorders, smoking…): they can change the plan or affect healing.

Aftercare

  • Avoid biting hard objects (ice, fruit stones, pens) with your front teeth.
  • If you clench or grind your teeth at night, mention it: a protective night guard may be advised.
  • Follow the written instructions given by the dentist and contact the team if you have any doubts.
  • Brush twice a day, use floss or interdental brushes, and plan regular check-ups with a dentist.

  • Veneers or crowns: what is the difference?

    A veneer covers only the front of the tooth; a crown covers it on all sides, like a cap. The aesthetic result is comparable, but a crown is stronger and can also correct a tooth's position. The choice is made tooth by tooth after the examination.

  • Is whitening enough to get a Hollywood Smile?

    No. Whitening lightens teeth by a few shades, but it changes neither their shape nor their alignment, and the effect fades over time (usually after 5 to 6 months). It may be enough if only the colour bothers you.

  • How many teeth need to be done?

    It depends on how wide your smile is. Most often 16 teeth (8 upper and 8 lower) or 20 teeth (10 upper and 10 lower) are treated. The right number is suggested after the examination and a review of your photos.

  • Will the colour change over time?

    Ceramic does not yellow: the chosen shade stays stable. Natural teeth that are not covered may darken over the years, which is why the shade is chosen with the neighbouring teeth in mind.

  • Is the treatment reversible?

    No: the teeth are prepared before fitting, which is irreversible. Veneers or crowns can be replaced one day, but the teeth will need to stay covered. This is worth weighing carefully before deciding.

  • How much does a Hollywood Smile cost in Turkey?
