Understanding the treatment

Dental Prostheses: what it involves and who it is for

What is a dental prosthesis?

A dental prosthesis replaces one or more missing teeth to restore function (chewing, speech) and an appearance close to natural teeth. Modern dentistry offers several types: fixed, removable and implant-supported. Some patients do not want, or are not able, to replace their teeth with implants; a removable denture is then an option. The choice depends on how many teeth are missing, the condition of the remaining teeth and your expectations.

  • Fixed: does not come out (crowns, bridges)
  • Removable: taken out for daily cleaning
  • On implants: more stable
  • Designed around the shape of your mouth

Who is it for?

  • No teeth at all in one or both jaws
  • Partial tooth loss
  • Patients who do not want or cannot have implants
  • Wearers of a loose denture wanting more stability
  • Need for a temporary solution during treatment
Options

Possible solutions

The choice is made with the dentist, based on the examination and your expectations.

  • Complete removable denture

A denture with acrylic teeth and pink resin gums, for when there are no teeth left. Lower cost and quick to make (5 days at most); on the other hand, it stays removable, a special denture adhesive is often needed and you will need time to get used to it.

  • Partial denture with attachments

For partial tooth loss: a removable denture held by a discreet attachment system (mini SG system), with no visible clasps that damage the teeth. One part of the attachment sits in a crown, the other in the denture.

  • Fixed prostheses: crowns and bridges

Permanently fixed, made of porcelain, zirconia or on a metal base, with a look and function close to natural teeth.

  • Denture clipped onto implants

A complete denture that clips onto 2 or 4 implants: it comes out for cleaning but holds better than a conventional denture.

  • Fixed prosthesis on implants

For a toothless jaw, a complete prosthesis fixed on implants (All-on-4, All-on-6) does not come out.

  • Temporary removable denture

A temporary denture can be made for a waiting period, for example while healing after extractions or implant placement.

Materials and technology

How the treatment is prepared

  • Custom-made

Each prosthesis is made from impressions of your mouth, according to its shape and your needs, then adjusted during try-ins.

  • Materials

Acrylic teeth and pink resin gums for removable dentures; porcelain, zirconia or metal-ceramic for fixed prostheses.

Steps

How the treatment unfolds

Durations are indicative; your schedule is set after the examination.

  1. Before travelling

    1. Remote pre-assessment

You send photos of your smile and, if you have one, a recent X-ray. A dentist replies with an initial opinion, the possible options and any questions to clarify. The final plan is only drawn up after the examination at the clinic.

  2. Day 1

    2. Examination and choice of prosthesis

Examination of the remaining teeth and a panoramic X-ray. The dentist presents the possible options (fixed, removable, on implants) with their advantages and limits.

  3. 3. Preparation

Depending on the chosen solution: crowns on the supporting teeth (attachment denture), implant placement, or any necessary treatment and extractions.

  4. 4. Impressions and try-ins

Impressions are taken, then the prosthesis is tried in to check comfort, bite and appearance before finishing.

  5. Complete denture: 5 days at most

    5. Delivery of the prosthesis

The prosthesis is adjusted in the mouth; you are shown how to put it in, take it out and care for it.

  6. Before departure

    6. Check-up and follow-up

A check-up appointment is scheduled before you leave. Afterwards, the team remains available for your questions, and regular check-ups with a dentist are recommended.

Health information

What to know before deciding

Risks and points to consider

  • A removable denture takes time to get used to: discomfort, extra saliva or difficulty pronouncing some words are common in the first days.
  • A complete removable denture may move; a special denture adhesive is often needed.
  • An attachment denture is only possible if the remaining teeth are strong and not loose; at least 4 of them must be crowned.
  • Pressure spots may appear on the gums; an adjustment is then needed.
  • Tell the dentist about any medication, allergies and health conditions (diabetes, bleeding disorders, smoking…): they can change the plan or affect healing.

Aftercare

  • Take out and clean your removable denture every day with a brush and a suitable product.
  • Also brush your gums and remaining teeth, especially the crowns that hold the denture.
  • If an area rubs or hurts, do not force it: contact a dentist for an adjustment.
  • Follow the written instructions given by the dentist and contact the team if you have any doubts.
  • Brush twice a day, use floss or interdental brushes, and plan regular check-ups with a dentist.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about this treatment

  • Removable denture or implants: which to choose?

Implants offer a fixed, more stable solution but require surgery and enough bone. A removable denture is simpler, quicker and less expensive, but it comes out and may move. There is an in-between option: a denture clipped onto 2 or 4 implants.
  • How long does it take to make a denture?

A complete removable denture is made within 5 days at most. Other prostheses (with attachments, on implants) involve more steps; you are given the timeline after the examination.
  • What is a denture with attachments?

It is a removable partial denture without clasps. It is held by a discreet attachment system (mini SG system): one part of the attachment is in a crown on a remaining tooth, the other in the denture. It is designed to stay stable when you eat or speak, making it more comfortable to wear.
  • Do my teeth need crowns for an attachment denture?

Yes, at least 4 remaining teeth need a crown to hold the attachments. If you wish, all remaining teeth can be crowned, which strengthens them and harmonises the smile. The teeth must be strong and not loose.
  • Do I need adhesive to hold a denture?

For a complete removable denture, a special denture adhesive is often useful to hold it in place. If it moves too much, a denture clipped onto implants can be considered.
  • How much does a dental prosthesis cost in Turkey?

As a guide, at the Antalya clinic: definitive removable denture (partial or full) 650 €, precision-attachment denture without clasps 950 €, overdenture on 2 implants 1 000 € or on 4 implants 1 200 €. The final price, including any implants, is set out in your quote, drawn up after the clinical examination.
  • What is included in the quote?

The quote includes transfers (airport, hotel, clinic), the panoramic X-ray and diagnosis, local anaesthesia and the necessary medication. The hotel is also included above a certain quote amount; the conditions are set out on the Prices page.
