Understanding the treatment

Dental Implants: what it involves and who it is for

What is a dental implant?

An implant is an artificial titanium root placed in the jawbone. Once healed, it supports a crown, bridge or denture. It is a fixed, strong and aesthetic solution that comes close to a natural tooth in both function and appearance. The clinic uses grade 5 titanium implants, a biocompatible material, from Turkish, European (Swiss, German) and South Korean brands; if you would like a particular brand, that is always possible. An implant passport is given to you at the end of the surgery.

  • Replaces both the root and the visible tooth
  • Anchored in bone, independent of neighbouring teeth
  • Grade 5 titanium, a biocompatible material
  • Implant brand of your choice, if you wish

Who is it for?

  • One missing tooth
  • Several missing teeth next to each other
  • A completely toothless jaw
  • Enough bone, or the option of a bone graft or sinus lift
  • Wish for a fixed solution rather than a removable denture
Options

Possible solutions

The choice is made with the dentist, based on the examination and your expectations.

  • One tooth: implant + crown

For a single tooth, the implant receives an individual crown, without touching the neighbouring teeth.

  • Several teeth: implants + bridge

One implant per tooth is not necessary. Examples: 3 missing teeth → 2 implants and a 3-crown bridge; 5 teeth → 3 implants and a 5-crown bridge.

  • Full jaw

To replace all the teeth in a jaw, 6 or 7 implants are placed, followed by bridges of 12 to 14 crowns. All-on-4 and All-on-6 techniques are also possible.

  • Implant-supported denture

Depending on the case, a removable denture can also clip onto 2 or 4 implants for better hold.

Materials and technology

How the treatment is prepared

  • Grade 5 titanium

The implants used are made of grade 5 titanium, a biocompatible material used in implant surgery.

  • Several brands to choose from

Brands used regularly: Venüs and Opus (Turkey), Megigma and Bego (Germany), Megagene (South Korea), Astra (Sweden), Nobel Biocare and Straumann (Switzerland). Another brand can be requested.

  • Implant passport

At the end of the surgery, you receive your implant passport (brand and references), useful for any future follow-up with another dentist.

  • X-ray and bone surgery

The panoramic X-ray is included in the diagnosis. If bone volume is insufficient, a bone graft or sinus lift may be proposed.

Steps

How the treatment unfolds

Durations are indicative; your schedule is set after the examination.

  1. Before travelling

    1. Remote pre-assessment

You send photos of your smile and, if you have one, a recent X-ray. A dentist replies with an initial opinion, the possible options and any questions to clarify. The final plan is only drawn up after the examination at the clinic.

  2. 1st stay

    2. Examination and planning

Clinical examination and panoramic X-ray. The dentist determines the number of implants, their position and the brand, and indicates whether bone surgery is needed.

  3. 1st stay

    3. Implant placement

The implants are placed in the jawbone under local anaesthesia. The implant passport is given to you at the end of the surgery.

  4. Usually 3 to 6 months

    4. Healing (osseointegration)

The implants integrate with the jawbone. You go home during this period, and the team remains available.

  5. 2nd stay

    5. Fitting the crowns or denture

During the second stay, the crowns, bridges or dentures are made, tried in and then fixed onto the implants.

  6. Before departure

    6. Check-up and follow-up

A check-up appointment is scheduled before you leave. Afterwards, the team remains available for your questions, and regular check-ups with a dentist are recommended.

Benefits

What this treatment can offer

  • Fixed and durable

Anchored in the bone, implants provide a stable base for the new teeth.

  • Natural aesthetics

Crowns on implants look close to natural teeth.

  • Chewing and speech

They make chewing and speaking more comfortable than with a removable denture.

  • Neighbouring teeth preserved

Unlike a conventional bridge, an implant does not require reducing the neighbouring teeth.

Health information

What to know before deciding

Risks and points to consider

  • As after any surgery, swelling, bruising or pain may occur in the following days; they are usually temporary.
  • An implant may fail to integrate with the bone; smoking, uncontrolled diabetes or poor hygiene increase this risk.
  • Insufficient bone may require a bone graft or sinus lift and lengthen the treatment.
  • Whether the treatment is suitable depends on your oral and general health; this can only be confirmed after a clinical and X-ray examination.
  • Tell the dentist about any medication, allergies and health conditions (diabetes, bleeding disorders, smoking…): they can change the plan or affect healing.

Aftercare

  • In the first few days: soft, lukewarm food, no smoking or alcohol, and take the prescribed medication.
  • Brush carefully around the implants, using interdental brushes or a water flosser.
  • Keep your implant passport and show it to your dentist at check-ups.
  • Follow the written instructions given by the dentist and contact the team if you have any doubts.
  • Brush twice a day, use floss or interdental brushes, and plan regular check-ups with a dentist.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about this treatment

  • How many implants are needed?

Not necessarily one per tooth. For 3 missing teeth side by side, 2 implants with a 3-crown bridge are often enough; for 5 teeth, 3 implants with a 5-crown bridge. For a full jaw, 6 or 7 implants are usually placed with bridges of 12 to 14 crowns. The exact number is set after the examination.
  • How long does treatment take?

It takes two stays. During the first, the implants are placed; then a healing period of usually 3 to 6 months is needed before the second stay, when the crowns or denture are fitted.
  • Which implant brands do you use?

The clinic regularly works with Venüs and Opus (Turkey), Megigma and Bego (Germany), Megagene (South Korea), Astra (Sweden), Nobel Biocare and Straumann (Switzerland). If you would like a specific brand, that is possible; the choice is discussed at the examination.
  • What is the implant passport?

It is a document given at the end of the surgery that shows the brand and references of your implants. It allows any dentist to provide follow-up or treatment later, including in your home country.
  • What if I do not have enough bone?

A bone graft, or a sinus lift for the upper jaw, may be proposed to increase bone volume. The examination and X-ray show whether this is needed before any decision.
  • How much does a dental implant cost in Turkey?

As a guide, a titanium implant costs from 350 € to 650 € depending on the brand (Mode, Notch, Nobel Biocare, Straumann), surgical placement included. The abutment (40 €) and the crown are charged separately. The final price depends on your situation and is set out in your quote, drawn up after the clinical examination and X-ray.
  • Why have dental implants in Turkey?

Many patients from France, Belgium or Switzerland choose Turkey in particular for the cost of treatment and to group the treatment into two stays planned in advance. In Antalya, we work with recognised implant brands, give you an implant passport and organise transfers and accommodation. The decision remains a medical one: it is made after reviewing your file and the clinical examination.
  • What is included in the quote?

The quote includes transfers (airport, hotel, clinic), the panoramic X-ray and diagnosis, local anaesthesia and the necessary medication. The hotel is also included above a certain quote amount; the conditions are set out on the Prices page.
